His mercy is easy.
SEE GOD'S FAVOR - Week 4
Mercy is the greatest of God's favor to us!
Psalm 103: 10-12 NIV
He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Mercy does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our sins. Mercy forgives and forgets. This is God's greatest favor! It is available to all. There are no exclusions.
God gave me a sweet view of his mercy one day as I sat watching the rain. It touched my soul and gave me a new, lovely picture of rain. On this rainy day in Alabama, I think of God's most wonderful mercy. I hope your soul also receives this pretty picture of mercy in the rain.
I sit at my window and watch the drops of rain. This rain is that of a summer shower, sometimes accompanied by a stream of sunlight. It is not a heavy pour or a thunderstorm. The rain simply drips from the sky with no preference of where it may land. Rain is not partial or picky about it's destination. Each trickle is completely satisfied with its resting place.
The green summer leaves savor the beads of water from the sky. Happy grass dances with glee as its thirst is quenched. Even my windows appear to feel some relief from the heat of the summer day while the rain splashes against them.
There is something so serene about witnessing God's creation of rain falling from the sky. I feel tempted to join the grass and trees as they soak in this luxury from heaven. It comes so very easily from the sky. It just falls! From my point of view on earth, each droplet takes pleasure in watering the ground.
In a daze observing the rain, God taps me on the shoulder. He reminds me of a lovely quote from Shakespeare regarding the quality of mercy.
"The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth like the gentle rain from heaven."
- a quote by Portia in William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice
Just as effortless as the rain fell from the sky onto my yard, so is God's mercy. It does not require any exertion or work for our Creator. His mercy is easy. It just falls out of his hand. By the work of Jesus on the cross, mercy is ours. Like the rain, God's mercy has no preference to where it lands. Sinners of all kinds will drip wet with his mercy resting comfortably on them. Just as the rain finds enjoyment landing on the earth, so does God's beautiful mercy when it finds a recipient.
Observe a summer rain, dear friend, as it drips from the sky, finding contentment splashing about at it's landing and in no way partial to who may receive it. Then remember God's mercy for you is not strained, but easy. It droppeth like the gentle rain from heaven.
